START HERE Experience the Power of Worship WATCH NOW SUPPORT THROUGH GIVING Join Us in Faithful Giving Lenten Address from Pastor Walton VIEW HOLY WEEK TIMELINE Dear Calvary and Friends, Join me this week in fasting during this Holy Week from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, as we prepare ourselves to remember and honor the death and sacrifice that Jesus made for each of us on the cross and to celebrate His resurrection defeating Hell and the grave. This is a sacred and holy time for Christians. Let us not rush through this week in anticipation of the good food and fellowship that we will enjoy with friends and family. Let us walk through this week remembering and reflecting on each step and event that our savior lived through asking God to give us insight and revelation that we would come to understand and appreciate what our Savior did and went through on our behalf. May this week bring you closer to Him and may you see and experience the love and glory that He has bestowed upon you through His life, death, and resurrection. As we move into the days, weeks, and months after Easter, I encourage you to live out the resurrection message in your daily life, finding new ways to serve and love, and embracing the hope and joy of Christ's risen life. Remember, Easter is not just a one-day event but a constant source of inspiration, revival, and renewal for our everyday lives. Our faith should not center around just attending worship on Sundays or meetings, but it should be about actively living as disciples of Christ in our private thoughts, our lives with our families, on our jobs, when we are on the bus, hanging out with friends, at a game, in everyday conversation, etc. Each day, I implore you to seek God’s guidance and make yourselves open to the Holy Spirit’s leading. Remember no matter what you may be experiencing in your everyday life be intentional about finding hope, strength, and joy in Christ’s resurrection. There will be some who will live through Holy Week and Easter and go on about their lives as usual, little will change in their lives. Don’t make that your choice. The blessed and wonderful news is that you can live out your resurrected life in Christ through your personality, gifting, hobbies, etc. If you are in the food industry, serve your customers well and make extra for those in need. If you are a teacher, pray over your students every night. If you are a lawyer, speak with truth and love. If you are a mother or father, share God’s message with your children through words and actions. Seek every opportunity to bless others and pray for them. Embrace and seek after an authentic life in Christ where you will work each day to share the gospel of Jesus Christ. And whenever you think that this is asking too much of you, remember what Christ did on the cross for you. After all, you never know who will be in heaven because you truly lived out the Great Commission. “And he said to them, “Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation" (Mark 6:15 ) Pastor John R. Walton, Jr. Reverend Dr. John Richard Walton, Jr. The Reverend Doctor John Richard Walton, Jr. is a native of Cleveland, Ohio, and has served as the senior pastor of the Calvary Baptist Church of Milwaukee for the last 22 years. Pastor Walton is well-respected and sought after as preacher, pastor to pastors, lecturer, and spiritual, biblical, and academic authority in the training and discipleship of deacons and church leadership. DREAMING GOD SIZED DREAMS: REBUILDING FAMILIES IN 53206 Faithful Giving Is Faithful Living To God “Bring the full tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. And thereby put me to the test, says the Lord of hosts, if I will not open the windows of heaven for you and pour down for you a blessing until there is no more need.” Malachi 3:10 Stewardship is form of worship and our direct response to God’s generous and abundant love. Stewardship represents how we as God’s children use, care for, and share God’s gifts to us. God’s gifts include families, homes, jobs, money, everything. God wants us to all to have everything we need, and He will give us the desires of our hearts according to His perfect and divine will. All He asks of us is that we give Him the tithe (10%) in faith and obedience. Select your giving option below: Key Stewardship Terms Tithe – This word means 10. God says we need to give this to Him. This is the foundation of Christian Giving. In making the decision and commitment to tithe, the Christian is saying, “God is first in my life above everything else, and I trust God to provide because He said He would.” Offering – An offering is any monetary amount that is given above the tithe – 10%. There is no offering without the tithe. Contribution – If a Christian is not tithing – giving 10% of all that he or she makes, then they are giving a contribution. For Your Further Study and Education: Scriptures that Talk about Tithing Genesis 14:19-20 Genesis 28:20-22 Exodus 35:5 Exodus 35:22 Leviticus 27:30-34 Numbers 18:21 Numbers 18:26 Deuteronomy 12:5-6

- Lent 2024 | CBC Church
Lent 2024 Dear Members of Calvary, I greet you in the name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Dear brothers and sisters in Christ, As we enter the season of Lent, let us begin with hope and determination: hope that we recognize our daily encounters with God as He blesses us with His divine grace and mercy and that we live with determination to engage seriously and consistently in the work of moral and spiritual renewal. Why is this important? Our goal as His children should be to live our Christian faith with greater integrity and celebrate the Lord Jesus’ death and resurrection with authentic joy. Let us be assured that God has an abundance of grace, which never runs dry and pours out more abundantly in this holy season. Bask and immerse yourself in that grace, for by it we may be cleansed of sin and refreshed in mind and spirit. Finally, nourish your faith Lent by seeking God diligently in your life. Only you and God know how diligently you seek Him. God loves us so much that He worked to diligently ensure that we would be with Him forever. He knew we would continuously fall down and would need supernatural help to get back up again and again. So, He intentionally sent Jesus to be our Savior Jesus was diligent in that He obeyed the Father even unto death to pay the price for our sins and cover us with His blood so that the light of God and His forgiveness will forever be upon us. During Lent, the practice is to give something up so that we may use that energy that we would use on an activity or the pleasure we take in a certain food and place that toward more time and thought toward God and our relationship with Him. Take time to spend more time with the Father in prayer and reading His Word. Ask Him to show you where you need to be more diligent in your relationship with Him. Make this Lenten season purposeful and intentional for you. Use that time, energy, or space that you would normally use for whatever you give up to get closer to God. As I close this letter, I remind you that Jesus Christ died and rose from the dead to make us a new creation. In 2nd Corinthians we are told, “From now on we regard no one according to the flesh . . . So, whoever is in Christ is a new creation: the old things have passed away; behold new things have come.” Lent is a sacred and blessed time to throw off any habits, inclinations, or “stinkin thinking” that separates us from being closer and more intimate with Christ. You are here and alive for this Lenten season. Don’t say “ I will do it next year for Lent.” Remember, tomorrow is not promised let alone next year. Seize the day and be intentional about the next forty days of fasting, prayer, reading His Word, and seeking His face and best for Your life. Yours in Christ and Be Blessed Pastor John R. Walton, Jr., D.Min

SUNDAY Psalm 51:1-11 NIV Dear Lord, Our Faithful and Loving Father, Have mercy on us, O God, according to Your unfailing love; according to Your great compassion, blot out our transgressions. Wash away all our iniquity and cleanse us from our sins. For we know our transgressions and our sins are always before us. Against You, You only, have we sinned and done what is evil in Your sight; so You are right in Your verdict and justified when You judge. Surely we were sinful at birth, sinful from the time our mothers’ conceived us. Yet You desired faithfulness even in the womb; You taught us wisdom in that secret place. Cleanse us, and we will be clean; wash us, and we will be whiter than snow. Let us hear joy and gladness; let the bones You have crushed rejoice. Hide Your face from our sins and blot out all our iniquity. Create in us pure hearts, O God,and renew a steadfast spirit within us. Do not cast us from Your presence or take Your Holy Spirit from us. Restore to us the joy of Your salvation and grant us a willing spirit, to sustain us. In Your name we pray, Amen. MONDAY Psalm 1 O Lord, Our God, Oh Lord, bless us as a church who does not follow the counsel of the wicked, nor stand in the way of sinners, nor sit in the seat of mockers; but delights in Your law, meditating on it day and night, being like a tree planted by streams of water, yielding its fruit in season, whose leaf does not wither; in all that we do, allow us if it is Your Perfect and Divine Will to prosper. May we not be like the chaff that the wind drives away, but may our lives and service to You be rooted and grounded in Your word, forever guided by Your righteousness. In Your matchless name we pray, Amen. TUESDAY Psalm 91 Dear God, Our Provider and Protector, Thank You for Your continued presence with us. Thank You for Your Almighty hands which cast an impenetrable shadow of protection. Thank You for going before us; and for covering us from all sides. Thank You for choosing each day to be in our midst, for lifting our burdens and concerns, and for securing the Heavenly place next to Your Son, our Savior, that You prepared for us. Your divine Words bring so much joy, hope, peace, and comfort to our hearts, minds, and souls. Remind us daily of Your strength so we will not try to rely on our own. Each day, may we always see glimpses of Your true and perfect glory and blessing as we seek Your face in prayer, in study, in mediation, and in worship. Victory and salvation are found in You alone, Lord. It is in the Mighty Name of Jesus we pray, Amen. WEDNESDAY 1 Thessalonians 3:9-13 Oh Lord, Our Alpha and Omega, Our Beginning and Our End, We, Calvary Baptist Church of Milwaukee Inc, thank You for the gift of our brothers and sisters in Christ in our surrounding community, in our city, in our state, in our nation, and in our world. We pray that You would continually increase our love for one another and for all people and increase our willingness and ability to serve those who need to be rebuilt from inside out so they may know and understand who they are a part of Your family and that they are Your children. May You guide our steps to be able to visit the sick, connect, serve, and minster to our brothers and sisters in Christ no matter who they are or what they look like. May our Lord Jesus clear the way for us to come together as a church family in prayer, in study of Your Word, in fellowship with each other and with the surrounding community . Establish our hearts as blameless and holy in Your sight, so that when our Lord Jesus returns with all His saints, we may stand before You without fault or blemish. In Your Holy Name we pray, Amen. THURSDAY Ephesians 1:15-23 Dear Father God, Thank You for opening the eyes of our hearts and giving us faith in our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. May the very essence of our souls and spirits be revived with the awesomeness of Your truth by the Holy Spirit. O God, keep our eyes clear and our minds focused, so that we can know what You are calling us to do. Help us to grow in our knowledge of who You are and hold on and cherish the hope that we have the riches of Your glorious inheritance . Help us to tap into the immeasurable, the unlimited greatness of Your Mighty Power in us and in all who believe. We do not want to live in our own strength and energy. Lead us, instead, to live according to the unfalliable power You displayed when Jesus was raised from the dead. We declare that the same power that raised Jesus from the dead is the same power at work in us. When we feel like we are in a power battle, remind us that we will be victorious because we already have victory in You. We praise and glorify Your name for are so worthy to be praised. May Jesus so speak and act through His church and through our ministry and service so lives can be rebuilt and filled with Your love. Amen. SATURDAY Ephesians 3:14-21 Dear Precious Lord, Please from Your glorious, unlimited riches, gift us and all Your children with inner strength through Your Spirit. May Christ make His home in our hearts as we trust Him more and more. Each day we open the door of our hearts and welcome Christ to come into our hearts through faith! We confess and repent of our sins and stand on the truth of the gospel. Help us to be rooted and grounded in Your love, to have our souls and spirits planted firmly in Your Word, in prayer, in study, and in service. Strengthen us to be able to understand how wide, how long, how high, and how deep Your love is for us. Lord, we want to embrace You unsurpassing love, so we may recognize who we are in You and shine the light of Your love and greatness to others that they will come to know You, believe, and be saved. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
- ABOUT | Calvary Baptist Church
Calvary Baptist Church was established in 1895. Calvary is the oldest African American Baptist Church in the city of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Our church has a rich history and is presently striving to rebuild families through Kingdom Discipleship. DREAMING GOD SIZED DREAMS: REBUILDING FAMILIES IN 53206 ABOUT US OUR MISSION At Calvary Baptist Church of Milwaukee, Inc., we are a Christ Centered Church dedicated to rebuilding families in the 53206 zip code and surrounding communities. All of the work and service we do is carried out through our mission which comes from the Great Commission in Matthew 28:16-20 that directs us, “To Go into All the World and make Disciples of All People.” OUR VISION At Calvary, we strive to be Holy Spirit-filled agents to rebuild our families, our church, and community at large. In Genesis 37-50, Joseph’s story was told of how God used him to rebuild his family and the nation of Israel, and this is the foundation which we use to inspire us in our everyday lives. We continue to live as disciples of Christ and be rebuilt in His image through prayer, study, and fellowship. It is through rebuilding families that we pursue our mission of making disciples for Christ. What We Believe OUR BELIEFS God God has revealed Himself to be the living and true God, perfect in love and righteous in all His ways; one in essence, existence eternally in the three persons of the Trinity: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Scripture is an essential part and trustworthy record of this divine self-disclosure. All the books of the Old and New Testaments, given by divine inspiration, are the written Word of God. Scripture God, by His Word and for His glory, freely created the world from nothing. He made people in His own image, as the crown of creation, that people might have fellowship with Him. Creation CALVARY BAPTIST CHURCH GOAL When we receive a word from God as Jesus did from His Father, whether we agree with it or not, it tells us God loves us and He cares. Revelations like these often come during high mountaintop spiritual times when we are yielded to receive an unusual word from God and they must be protected because the evil one wants to dislodge it from our minds and hearts. The Youth participate in a wide variety of activities at Calvary Baptist Church including: Sunday School, Youth Church, Community Dinner volunteering, Annual Youth Day, 5th Sunday Youth Services, New Genesis Dance Ministry, Fine Arts Ministry, including Youth Choir. Youth Service First, Sunday School is the arm that reaches all ages for Christ. “Reaching” is defined as making contact with a person and motivating him or her to give an honest hearing to the gospel. Since evangelism is giving out the gospel, reaching is basically preevangelism, for it gets people to listen to the gospel. How We Learn Small groups offer a place to connect with other believers in fellowship; to grow in our understanding of the Bible, as Jesus' own small group of disciples did; to meet the needs of others in your group in ministry; to become equipped for evangelism; and to worship God through practicing godly behavior.
