USHERS’ MINISTRY

Scripture: “For a day in your courts is better than a thousand. I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of wickedness.” Psalm 84:10 NKJV.

Purpose: Christians serving God’s people. Church Ushers provide support each Sunday, during special programs and at funerals; helping to ensure that things are done in a fitting and orderly manner. They may also accompany the Pastor  when he preaches at  area churches.  Ushers  should be on duty   at all times during the service, always ready to assist others, with a goal of maintaining order and minimizing distractions.

What we do: Church Ushers prepare for the order of the day by arriving early and making sure items needed for worship are in their proper places. They serve as doorkeepers, extending hospitality, welcoming members and visitors into the Sanctuary. Ushers work in the aisles, directing people to comfortable seating, responding to the needs or requests of worshippers; distributing programs, envelops, fans, collecting offering and being on guard at all times during the service.

An Ushers work is done through practices that range from wearing uniforms, rules for working in the aisles, use of special signals to communicate requests, to the proper manner for collecting offering. Manuals and help aides, as well as usher workshops instruct individuals in the techniques of ushering.
